KitchenAid 5-Speed Immersion Blender Giveaway

The death of my Boat Motor

Last week I had a funeral for my immersion blender.  After 15 years of faithful service, it dropped dead in the middle of blending a batch of nice creamy soup. An immersion blender is one handy gadget and I use it a lot so I don’t want to be without one. Before I had one, I thought of an immersion blender as an unnecessary luxury.  Then Bill gave me one for Christmas. He’s always buying something to cook with with an implied “hint”.  The guy loves to eat! Now that I have had an immersion blender for a few years, I wouldn’t want to be without one. I make a lot of spaghetti sauce with the tomatoes from the garden, and pea soup is one of Bill’s favorites. When I told Bill I was replacing my my blender, he looked both puzzled and excited….that’s because I said that my “boat motor” had died and I needed to get a new one.  Being a very literal person, Bill first wondered when I had gotten a boat and why did I get one with a motor so far gone that it died before he even got a ride in it. He looked a little disappointed when I explained that “boat motor” was a slang term for the blender.  I quickly reminded him that it’s the tool I used to make all those creamy soups he loves and he quickly got over the disappointment. So I was off to Amazon, my favorite place to shop for kitchen stuff.  Because we live in such a remote area, I won’t be able to find an immersion blender locally.  I would have to head 90 miles south to Bangor for any chance of finding one and even then I would not get the selection that is on Amazon.  We have an Amazon Prime membership which is well worth the annual fee. Because I shop on there all the time, the money saved by getting free SECOND DAY shipping  on all my “Prime”  purchases has more than paid for membership plus there are thousands of movies that we can stream and watch for free.  OH oh, I’m getting off track here. KitchenAid 5-speed Immersion Blender, Onyx Black
I checked out all the immersion blenders listed on Amazon that were eligible for Prime ”free second day shipping” and settled on a very reasonably priced KitchenAid.  I chose the KitchenAid KHB2561 5-speed Immersion Blender.  It had a number of features and attachments that I liked.  First, it had a variable speed dial which gives me more control in processing the food.  When I was reading the reviews of single speed blenders they kept mentioning problems with the gears wearing out within a year. (That’s another thing I love about Amazon – the product reviews from actual customers.) Being able to apply more speed/power will eliminate that flaw. It has a “One-Touch” Power Button that allows me to activate the blender by pressing the button and holding it.  With any blender, immersion or counter top, I want to be able to pulse rather than blend constantly.  This feature gives me better control. The motor has great power and yet it runs very quietly. The 5 foot cord gives me the ability to move around with it from the cook top to the counter top work area, and even to my island.   And it has attachments that add to its functionality – a wire whisk, a Chopper attachment, and 4 cup Blending pitcher (perfect for smoothies). I am loving this machine.  It comes apart and cleans easily.  And it comes with a nice storage container with room for all the attachments to keep everything organized. So I am enjoying this new blender a lot.  All weekend, I couldn’t leave it alone. I used the chopping function to make some salsa and I made Bill a Banana Smoothie which came out creamy and smoooottth! I had a lot of veggies to chop to as I was canning a piccalilli relish.  I have to say I am very, very pleased with this immersion blender. I liked this so much that I got a second one to give away to a lucky follower of this blog.
