The Seasons of the North Maine Woods
This is a photo gallery of seasons in the North Maine Woods starting with spring and spanning until through to winter.
This view of Mount Katahdin and Salmon Stream Lake is taken from I-95 North, just north of the Medway, Maine exit.
Our long and winding driveway is over 1500 feet long. It allows for a secluded setting but can be a lot of work in the winter.
The view from our front porch – majestic Mount Katahdin – the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail
The scenic view provides an expansive view of the entire Baxter State Park as viewed across Salmon Stream Lake just north of Millinocket, Maine.
Mount Katahdin is the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. Although it is only 1 mile high, it’s famous “knife edge” trail to the summit can be very dangerous!
Our fields take a magical look this time of year as purple cow vetch pops up, sprinkled amongst the wild madder.
Thw wild madder is such a beautiful weed that I don’t mind it taking root in the flower beds. It acts as a soft “filler” like you would use in a floral arrangement.
There are 1000’s of miles of tote roads through the North Maine Woods that provide for some very interesting rides.
The trees here in the Katahdin region of the North Maine Woods shimmer in the winter sunlight like they are encrusted in diamonds.
We tend to get some wild storms here in the winter. Some locals say it is because of Mount Katahdin. We live about 15 miles from the mountain which is in the heart of Baxter State Park.
The chicken house and all the outbuildings were encrusted with jewel like ice diamonds this morning! So beautiful!
These trees are along the edge of our lawn at the edge of the forest. Beyond those trees is a spectacular view of Mount Katahdin when the weather is good.
Wow, quite a few outstanding shots! Thanks for sharing♪ http://lauriekazmierczak.com/febrrruary/

It is but right now is the worst time of the year ….BLACK FLY season, LOL! The little buggers visit us for about 3 weeks and they are miserable. Their bite is terrible and they are so tiny they can get in your hair, your ears, and other more inappropriate places. Thank goodness they are here for just a short time. We all dress in little net bug suits in the spring here in Maine!
