When Flood contacted me regarding doing this post about their Better Backyard sweepstakes and their interactive “Make Staining Simple” Guide, I immediately thought, “how timely is this!” We have been remodeling our home and spent the winter working on the interior. Now that spring is here, we have headed outside to take advantage of the warmer weather to do an outside remodel. We started with doing some much needed landscaping in the backyard. But improving the landscaping just showed how much the siding needs to be maintained. The old stain is worn off in some areas, blistered up in others and we have mildew problems along the back deck. We will be going with a darker stain color to even out the color of the whole house.
As you can see from the photos below, we have a very large house. And if you look carefully, you’ll notice that the log cabin siding needs to be stained.
I’m not sure what product the previous owners used but I am very sure it wasn’t Flood Stain. We have used Flood products before and our experience is that they last way beyond their warranty period. We had used Flood Stain on our previous home and the stain lasted well beyond the 5 year warranty. We didn’t have to redo it until the 9th year. The stain on this cabin needs to be redone so we’re going to be doing it with Flood. So my questions are how much stain do I need to do this monster of a house? What product is going to be best? What colors are available? What should we do for prep work?
My questions were all answered by using the “Making Staining Simple” interactive guide on the Flood website. All I had to do was answer a few questions and there was all the information I needed to know. What to buy, how much to buy, where I can purchase it, and even a materials list!
Everything I needed was printable. The “How To” videos on their website were very informative and helpful. They even gave me the info I needed on the preparation products (which I hadn’t even thought of). They gave me the correct products for preparation and for finishing the job. It’s going to be a big job as there is 3600 sq. ft. of siding to be done. First the old stain will have to be removed and then the new will have to be applied. It’s going to be a BIG job but when we’re done it will be a wonderful transformation.
